SERMONS
(archives)Heart of Evangelism

The great commission to “go and make disciples…” starts with helping individuals think differently about God and His love. We need to help people view God as a loving father who longs that none should perish. Biblically, this is called evangelism; or the sharing of the Good News of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection on our behalf. Seven of Jesus’s commands speak to His desire that we actively share our faith. In our newest series, The Heart of Evangelism, we will look at such commands as Follow Me, Repent, Pray for Laborers, Choose the Narrow Way, Be Born Again and more. We want to help you in your obedience to evangelism as we eliminate feelings of pressure, inadequacy and apathy.

Heart of Worship

Jesus’ great commission includes the disciple-making instruction to teach others what He has commanded us to obey. Jesus gave 49 unique commands for us to follow; and over these next four weeks we will look at the commands related to worshiping Him in our series, The Heart of Worship. As we obey these commands, we grow our trusting relationship with Him. Together we are going to discover what it means to worship Him through our love, our private spiritual disciplines and our singular devotion to Him and Him alone.

Heart of New Life

A survey of the Gospels reveals that Jesus taught His disciples 49 commands to obey. He then asked His disciples to teach these commands to others. These commands are not to create a new form of legalism, but rather they reflect the heart of God in showing us how to live an abundant life. Starting January 8, and lasting through the year, I will teach a new command each week, presented through multiple preaching series, all reflecting the heart of our Shepherd. I will start with a ten-week series called, “The Heart of New Life” by learning how to put into practice what Jesus meant when he asked us to seek first His kingdom, to take His yoke upon us, to deny yourself, to let your light shine and much more.

Jesus never asked his followers to remember his birthday; however He did ask us to remember him in baptism and communion. Why Christmas? Why do we celebrate it and what is the message of Christmas that is meant to make a lasting impact upon us? It is easy to get so caught up in Christmas that it is reduced to a cultural social event celebrated with a season of over-spending, over-eating and over-committing. Is there more to Christmas? Join us as we spend the next five Sundays looking at five of the reasons to remember Christmas.

In the early 90’s Canon Cameras introduced a marketing effort to increase sales. They showcased tennis star Andre Agassi and came up with the slogan “Image is Everything.” It was very catchy and it mirrored the attitude of vast numbers of people. Look good on the outside, impress others, and obsess on what people think of you define the core beliefs of many. In one sense, image is everything for we are made in the image of God. Culturally what matters most is our image, but in God’s kingdom what matters most is character; that which is on the inside. Deep convictions, not shallow images, are what defines us and how God looks at us. Character is forged and retained by the resolve we have to be like Christ. In this series we will learn from the incredible resolve Daniel had and the resulting difference this made in his world.

God on Film

Every day, millions of people are going to the movies for entertainment. But how often do we look to the movies for “real life lessons?” The series, “GOD ON FILM” is all about sharing God’s story with movies because they in some way are reflections of the greater story that God has written on our hearts…redemption, forgiveness, heroic sacrifices, love, adventure, miracles and the meaning of life.

Stretch

Many of us seek after our own personal comfort zones. We look for ways to keep control, to limit risk and to reduce the potential for conflict. We can easily carry this attitude into our relationship with Jesus. Because Jesus is most concerned about our growing more and more into His likeness, he wants us out of our comfort zones. He wants us to stretch. He also desires obedience, and a primary way He grows us is to get us reaching out to others through evangelism – the sharing of the Good News. This series will explore every Christian’s call to evangelism, the process of evangelism and the barriers to evangelism. The goal will be to help us stretch into the person God desires us to be.

All of us go through trying times; and they don’t happen by accident. God arranges those times to help us grow. In his study of the life of Joseph, we’ll discover what brought him through his darkest days and how we can learn from his example. If you are stuck on a scene in your life that you don’t understand, be inspired and informed by Joseph as he demonstrates how to trust God even in the hardest of times. This study is for everyone who wants to know God and be used for His purposes.
